SEIKO JOINS FORCES WITH OCEANIC SOCIETY AS AN OFFICIAL SPONSOR

July 23, 2021.- Seiko Watch of America has announced that it has become an official sponsor of Oceanic Society, America’s first ocean conservation non-profit. A leading manufacturer of diving watches through its high-intensity Prospex line, Seiko has long coupled the development of breakthrough technology for deep sea diving with activities to foster the protection and exploration of the world’s oceans.

Built from the start for superior operation in the most challenging environments, Seiko diver’s watches became essential equipment for the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) within a year of their 1965 introduction, and soon were recognized as the watch of choice for generations of the most daring divers and marine explorers. The company has long believed that conserving the world’s oceans is a commitment inseparable from its technological achievements. The new official sponsorship of the Oceanic Society stands as further evidence of Seiko Prospex’s role as an active force in ocean exploration and conservation. For over 50 years, the Oceanic Society has worked to foster appreciation for the world’s oceans, dedicated to forging a connection between the people of the globe and its waterways. Among its key initiatives are efforts to curb plastic pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, develop sustainable seafood, promote eco-travel, and protect endangered sea turtles through its State of the World’s Sea Turtles (SWOT) Program. The sponsorship stands as an important alliance for Seiko, reinforcing the brand’s role as an active force in marine conservation.

Seiko will, at the same time, be continuing its other environmental initiatives, notably its sponsorship of Scuba Diving Magazine’s Sea Hero Awards, honoring those dedicated to preserving the oceans and marine life, and its work as an official partner of PADI, the world’s leading scuba diver training operation. In testament to its commitment to PADI, just last month the company announced that it will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of the Seiko Prospex “Save the Ocean” themed models to support the PADI AWARE Foundation’s Marine Debris Program, an effort by over 70,000 divers to track seafloor debris for organizations dedicated to long-term waste management solutions.
