Created in 1968, Seiko 5 Sports has brought durable and reliable mechanical watches to watch lovers around the world. The collection was relaunched in 2019 with the addition of a youthful dynamism, but its fundamental values remained unchanged.
Today, Seiko 5 Sports celebrates its 55th anniversary with a new limited edition that re-creates the first watch from 1968, in addition to three other watches that pay homage to the designs and colors of the 1969 collection. Each of the four new watches is powered by the tried-and-trusted Caliber 4R36 automatic movement.
The first commemorative watch is a limited edition that re-creates the original Seiko 5 Sports watch, which attracted so many fans in the late 1960s and early ‘70s and remains popular in today’s vintage market. The new creation’s dial, bezel, and 39.5mm case transport enthusiasts to the exciting early days of Seiko 5 Sports, when it took the watch world by storm.

The new watch revives the design of the original.
The original Seiko 5 Sports logo is revived at the 12 o’clock position in honor of the 55th anniversary, and the word “SPORTS” appears at 6 o’clock. Lumibrite, which is applied on the hands and bar indexes, ensures excellent legibility in the dark.
A newly created bracelet features an upgraded, solid construction. Yet its resemblance to the vintage original is readily apparent, providing another design detail that firmly grounds the watch’s aesthetics at the beginning of the Seiko 5 Sports story.
The new creation comes in a special box that uses the same logo and color scheme as the original that accompanied the first Seiko 5 Sports watch.
The Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition Re-creation of the first 5 Sports watch will be available starting in July 2023 at select retail partners nationwide.
The celebration continues with three watches in the SKX Sports Style that pay tribute to the 1969 Seiko 5 Sports collection, which, in addition to reliability and durability, offered a variety of looks and designs. The new special-edition watches mirror the coloring of three especially popular historical watches. Each creation with a silver, black, or orange and black dial has a bezel insert that closely follows the design of the one found on an original watch from the 1969 collection. They combine these classic homages with the legendary SKX case, featuring the iconic shape with crown protectors and a unidirectionally rotating bezel. Each comes on a three-link stainless steel bracelet.
All three watches will be available at the select retail partners nationwide in September 2023.
